Description
A masonry drill bit is a specialised type of drill bit designed specifically for drilling into hard materials like brick, stone, concrete, and mortar.
Also referred to as brick drill bit or concrete drill bit.
Unlike regular wood or metal drill bits, masonry bits are built to handle tough, abrasive surfaces.
Don’t use a regular wood or metal bit on concrete—it will wear out fast and may even break. Masonry bits are made to withstand the hard, gritty surfaces of stone and brick.
Key Features:
-
Tip Material: Usually has a carbide tip (often tungsten carbide), which is extremely hard and can cut through masonry without dulling quickly.
-
Fluted Design: Spiral grooves help remove dust and debris from the hole as you drill.
-
Shank: Can have a standard round shank or a hex shank to fit drill chucks securely.
Some are designed for hammer drills to combine rotation with a hammering action for easier drilling.
Uses:
-
Drilling holes for wall plugs (anchors) in brick or concrete
-
Installing screws or bolts in masonry walls
-
Making openings for electrical cables or pipes in stone or concrete walls
